The type of UCH differs between the two phases, and the deactivation procedure is not the same. Phase 1 UCHs use an older IMMO system, often accessible with less recent diagnostic tools. Phase 2 UCHs incorporate a higher level of encryption, complicating the reading of the PIN code and making the IMMO OFF method more technical.
A preparer who works indiscriminately on both phases without adapting their protocol risks encountering a locked unit. Precisely identifying the version of the UCH before any manipulation is a step that field feedback confirms as crucial.
Clio 2 Engine Remapping and Legal Framework: Homologation and Insurance
Deactivating the anti-theft system is not just a technical issue. In France, any vehicle whose engine management or electronic devices related to starting have been modified must remain compliant with current regulations. An unapproved remapping exposes one to rejection during the technical inspection and may require a single approval (RTI) from the DREAL.
From the insurers’ side, the situation is clear: an unreported engine remapping combined with a modification of the anti-theft system can be considered a significant alteration of the vehicle’s characteristics.
